Introducing the Massey Featherson Chicken Tractor Range:
These chicken tractors come fully assembled. They are available in 4.0 CP (Chicken Power) and 6.0 CP (Chicken Power) models. Cladding is all H3.2 treated ColourPine coated in Cabbot's decking stain, while the frame is H4 treated for optimum durability in wet environments; screwed construction with zinc-plated fasteners is used throughout. The full house over run orientation maximizes protection from rain while providing sunlight at ground level where the hens spend most of their time. A sliding door at one end provides ground level feed and water access, and a hinged roof access door makes egg collection and inspection easy. Every tractor should have wheels for greatest ease, but this sturdy hen house can be used as a stationary chicken coop for free-ranging chooks as well.

Depending on chicken breed and age, this chicken tractor is suitable for up to six chickens comfortably. It has an overall grazing length of 1.5m and width of 1.2m.

If there is any option for the chicken tractor you should get, two wheels is it. What good is a tractor without any wheels? These ball-bearing wheels let you easily lift one end to roll the tractor around like a wheelbarrow...without them you really want two people to make a move. Highly recommended if you want your tractor to be truly mobile. |

Some people like being able to shut their chickens in for the night for either heat or additional protection from predators. Our experience is that most places in New Zealand aren't so cold that the chickens need the extra heat...they are after all covered in fluffy feathers suitable for the woodland creatures they are. In most cases ferrets, stoats, and rats are not big problems in suburban areas where dogs, cats, and people roam and provide protection. Finally, we like the low maintenance aspect of being floorless. But if you want a floor, we provide one with a hinged ramp door that provides chickens access to the house and also closes things up when you want. |

If you are planning on adding an extra run at some point and want the flexibility of access at both ends of your tractor, you have the option of an additional sliding door. |

Our feed troughs are basically a piece of PVC pipe; if you're handy you can make one of these yourself. A movable coop isn't much good if you have the incovenience of a separate feeding trough, and I say that from experience! Located along the sliding door, it is covered from the elements and close enough to the side that the chickens have a hard time getting on top of it. This translates into less contamination and waste. |

Same again with the watering trough. Strategically located under the eave of the the roof, it collects at least some of the rainwater runoff meaning you don't have to fill it manually yourself quite as often and the chickens still get the freshest water around. If it needs cleaning, just take a garden hose to it on jet setting occasionally. |
